Galix (Galician Association of Books for Young People) was created in January 1989 as the Galician section of OEPLI (Spanish Organisation of Books for Young People), which, in turn, is the national section of the IBBY (International Board of Books for Young People). In 2003, it was awarded the Xerais Prize for Cooperation in Publishing by the Galician publishing company Edicións Xerais, for its work in promoting Galician culture and language by means of children's literature. It is a non-profit association that supports activities carried out in this field. Its regular activities include the following:
– Publication of the catalogues Our Children's Literature, which have been informing about the latest publications on the market since 1994.
– Organisation and administration of exhibitions of illustrators' work, called "Galicia Solidarity"; "Draw a Story for Me" and "The Sea by Illustrators of Children's Literature", for all institutions, libraries, schools, etc, that are interested.
– Co-organisation of the Permanent Training Course: "Iberian Children's Literature. Its Influence on Reading Education."
– Organisation and creation of the annual awards "Lecturas" Children's Literature Prize and "2" Prize, Children's Book Day.
– Organisation of activities during reading-promotion weeks and on the Day of Galician Letters and Children's Book Day.
– Collaborates with the Portuguese section of the IBBY in the organisation of the "Portuguese-Galician Congresses", which are held in Porto every November.
"The CELT research group is in charge of drafting this catalogue."
