The Galician Association of Publishers (AGE) is a professional entity that was set up in 1983 to defend, promote and disseminate the publishing of Galician-language books and to represent, manage and defend its members’ common interests.
AGE consists of 35 publishing companies, with a production volume, according to the latest available data (2004), of 1,444 Galician-language books annually, of which 370 correspond to the sector of children’s literature.
Within the profile of the associated publishing houses, approximately half have an important collection of publications aimed at children, while some of them specialise in this kind of books.
Although this is an important figure that shows the importance of children’s literature in Galicia’s publishing work, what stands out the most is the quality of Galician letters within universal literature as a whole. This is shown by the translation of many of our authors into other languages, the prizes awarded to Galician publishers due to the exquisiteness of their publications and the international recognition enjoyed by many of our illustrators.
The Galician Association of Editors is committed to the international scope of Galician children’s literature and to the opening up of new markets. It has therefore been present during more than a decade at the world’s most important publishing showcase, where we will present more than 300 books representing our latest publishing work.
