The Association of Galician-Language Writers (AELG) is the official entity that brings together more than 285 Galician-language writers in all kinds of categories: poetry, fiction, theatre, essay, scientific text, translation…
It was founded in 1980 by some of our literature’s most outstanding writers. Its members have included Álvaro Cunqueiro, Rafael Dieste, Ánxel Fole, Ricardo Carballo Calero, Uxío Novoneyra, Anton Avilés de Taramancos, Manuel María, Xela Arias and Luisa Villalta, among others.
AELG is an organ recognised by the Swedish Academy, which presents the official candidacies to the Nobel Prizes. It is a member of the European Writers’ Congress.
AELG is involved, along with the Association of Basque Writers and the Association of Catalan-Language Writers, in GALEUSKA, an annual meeting of writers from these three literary spheres.
The Association of Galician-Language Writers works to dignify the profession of writing, to promote authors and their books, and to encourage interconnection and exchanges among them, with other professionals and with society. It organises congresses, seminars and different events, also collaborating in similar initiatives promoted by other entities and institutions.
AELG recently decided to establish different literature sections, including that of Children’s Literature.
